El Gouna (“the Lagoon”) is an Egyptian tourist resort in the Red Sea Riviera located 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of Hurghada.
It was developed and owned by the Sawiris Family, Samih Sawiris and Orascom Hotels & Development, dating from around 1990.
The town of El Gouna has two main beaches – Zeytuna Beach located on its own island and Mangroovy Beach. This infrastructure is perfect for tourists wising to participate in scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, kitesurfing snorkelling.

The town of El Gouna has a fully equipped and modern hospital that can handle many medical treatments including plastic surgery, pediatrics, ophthalmology, dentistry and general surgery. It also features an intensive care unit and a decompression chamber in case of any diving accidents.
The town hosts the El Gouna International School, a campus of the TU Berlin an Environmental Geographic Information System and a small private airport for charter aircraft.
There are three marinas: Abydos marina, the Abu Tig Marina and the Abu Tig Marina Extension, which can moor super yachts.
El Gouna has a Coptic Church, the Church of St. Mary and the Archangels. The town also houses a small museum with some 90 exhibits (including statue replicas and an exhibition hall of contemporary Egyptian paintings by Hussein Bikar) which opened in 1996.
Other attractions, facilities and activities around the town of El Gouna include a small aquarium, a go-kart track, tennis courts, horse stables, paintball arena and a football stadium. The local football team El Gouna FC currently plays in the Egyptian Football Second Division.
