Contemporary Fine Dining AberdeenLunch in Aberdeen at Chaophraya Thai Restaurant

After many very positive testimonials, I decided to sample the Thailand Food experience at Chaophraya Aberdeen. For those readers who are familiar with the city centre of Aberdeen, this is located in the building formerly known as the The Monkey House on Union Street.

Chaophraya brand

What does Chaophraya stand for? Chaophraya is a river of Thailand formed by the Nan and Ping Rivers and flowing about 225 km (140 miles) southward past Bangkok to the Gulf of Thailand.

Chaophraya takes its name from this main waterway in Thailand. In ancient times, the Chaophraya river breathed life into the families who lived along its banks. Today, the river is still regarded as part of the essence of Thailand which is where the Chaophraya brand take their inspiration from.

The a la carte menu as you would expect for the opulent surroundings is expensive compare with other venues of a lower standard of furnishings. For those of you on a budget, the Set Menu represents very good value for money at either £28, £35 or £40 per person. A typical example would be a platter starter, main course with accompanying rice and desert.

The Kids Menu offers a choice of main course for £4.50, £5.25 or £5.75. As you would expect the A La Carte Menu offers an extensive selection of Thai food and prices tend to range from £6-£10 for starters; £9-£22 for main course; and £5.95 – £7.75 for desert.

The menu caters for all dietary requirements, and includes a selection of chicken, pork, steak, seafood dishes, salads &c., and vegetarian needs. The Drinks Menu includes a wide variety of cocktails and it was my duty to test drive a strawberry belini, that came with a fresh strawberry and was delicious.

What did we have to Eat at Chaophraya Aberdeen

We ordered pork spare ribs marinated with fresh Thai herbs and homemade barbecue sauce, served with grilled pineapple (£8) and Tom Yam Goong creamy hot and sour soup with king prawns, mushrooms, lemongrass, galangal, roasted chilli and lime leaves flavoured with Thai herbs (£10) for starters. The presentation was first class and the flavoured food was very tasty. I asked for my soup to be slightly more spicy than normal and this was served to perfection.

thai sirloin steakFor main course, we ordered 8 oz chamber aged sirloin steak served on a Himalayan rock salt block with a tangy chilli dip alongside stir-fried shimeji mushrooms, onions and Bok choy (£22); Pad Thai Gai the national dish of Thailand, which consisted of stir-fried rice noodles in tamarind sauce with chicken, spring onions, carrots, egg, tofu, sweet turnip and bean sprouts, topped with lightly pickled vegetables (£10.50); egg friced rice; and spicy fried rice with chicken and basil. The food was delicious.

Chaophraya Aberdeen Review

This was one of the best meals and dining experiences in Aberdeen we’ve had in a long time. Mouth-watering. Exquisite. Flavoursome. Pleasurable.

The service was first class and I’d like to thank Olivia Wong of Chaophraya Aberdeen for taking such good care of us on our first visit to this Thai Restaurant in the city centre of Aberdeen.

Another venue to add to your eating out in Aberdeen bucket list. Its not a case of if we’ll be back, but rather, when we’ll be back! I have no hesitation in highly recommending this Thai Restaurant for any special occasion in Aberdeen.
